My Soul's Prescription: Slowing Down and Digital De-Toxing

I am asking myself this single question: what does or will soothe my soul?

It is a question I don't know if I have ever fully explored. At different times or phases of my life, I did a better job of listening to my soul, but I got so busy I stopped listening somewhere along the way. As I learned the hard way, that is never-- repeat never-- a good thing.

So while up until now I have reflected with sadness and melancholy about the challenges last year, I want to savor the good times and make the most of the rest of what is left of this year..

In short, it's a new day.

Part of my new prescription for myself is to unplug. No more Facebooking, limiting my emails, just basically staying off of the computer (except to blogging, of course). I am listening to more music, pulling albums off the shelf that I haven't listened to in years. In my car now, Christina Aguilera's Stripped and The Soundtrack to Save the Last Dance. I should add, I also recently bought Whitney Houston's new album, I Look To You, and it is GREAT! It won't get a lot of radio play, but it is a must-have if you are a fan. Her story inspires me.

But I digress. I've also been reading, gardening, and lighting more candles. And through it all, what I am trying not to do is rush. I'm working to slow everything down yet still get stuff done. Working against my procrastinator tendencies and making a plan for everything seems still somewhat foreign. But I know it is what I have to do. It was mainly because what I was doing-- always rushing, putting things off till the last minute-- indeed was NOT working. And it most certainly wasn't soothing my soul.

Let's raise our cup to that extra afternoon tea and three fewer items on our To-Do lists and reconnecting with people who love us.
